Some plumbers and experts suggest rubbing a little petroleum jelly around the edge of the rubber where it makes a seal with the toilet, but this is not strictly necessary.  What is important though is to expel all the air and water on the down thrust and then pull up strongly to exert a strong suction or ‘pulling’ force on the blockage.  It is normally this pull back that gets the blockage dislodged.

The following is one way to create your shower design using tile.

1.  Find the center point of your floor or wall, mark the center line, and begin tiling at the line and work your way out. This way if you must cut and piece, it’s not in the middle of the room.

2.  Put down adhesive, and press the tile into place. Use a spacer between each tile.

3.  Once the tiles are set, remove the spacers and mix your grout. Using a float, spread the grout into the areas between the tiles, and use a sponge to wipe up excess grout. Grout is very drying and irritating to the skin, so wear gloves when working with it.

4.  When the tiles are finished, you will have to wait at least a day or two before allowing any floor traffic.  If this is your only bathroom with a shower or tub, you might want to plan on it being a weekend project so you don’t have a conflict with showering for work.
