The swivel TV mount can be tilted up and down, as well as left and right. They are one of the best type of mounts. Decorating with plate racks can be done in a number of ways as they’re available in various designs from vertical and horizontal styles, hanging or standing models, single to multiple dish capacities and from extremely ornate to the more sleek and simple lined designs. They can also display small framed art and decorative painted tiles.

In the kitchen, plate racks can be utilized to either store plates for daily use or to display decorative dishes either on the counter or on the wall. The storage style plate rack can be wall mounted or placed on a counter or shelf depending on the style purchased and the space. For some counter styles the dishes are stacked on top of each other and even though they’re not front displayed, a stack of colorful plates can still be a fabulous decorative touch. There are also counter styles that hold the dishes facing forward in between multiple posts that the dishes rest on. These look great on wall shelving or countertops. Another counter standing style is meant for display and resembles a miniature painter’s easel. It holds the decorative plate (or decorative tile) facing forward much like a painter’s canvas.  A word of caution on easel style plate racks – be sure to measure the height of the space between your counter and the bottom of the upper cabinetry so that you’re sure both the rack and the plate itself will fit.

For the wall varieties, there are plate racks that hold the dishes vertically – displaying the fronts. The racks can be hung in groupings or individually. They may hold anywhere from one to 3 or more plates each. Horizontal styles can hold more plates and are even available in large sizes that can hold a few rows of plates.  Another wall mounting design plate rack are clamp style racks. Each holds one dish and is nearly invisible once mounted. The holder simply clamps the plate from behind. These are normally grouped with other plates or flanking either side of a mirror or picture in a dining room.

Plate racks are very versatile and come in such a wide array of styles and designs. They’re priced from as low as ten dollars on up to the low hundreds. The best selection can be found online although it may be possible to find them in limited selections in your local home store or house ware section in your local department stores.

I found a very interesting article that talked about green wallpapers, and thought to myself – what a great idea!  Now, I’m not talking about wallpaper in the color green (although it is my favorite color!).  Instead what I’m talking about is wallpaper that is “green” – as in eco-friendly, good for the environment, made with natural and nontoxic ingredients.  The site I found the info on, DIY Her Way, had all kinds of interesting articles about do-it-yourself projects, building stuff and decorating and design choices.

Here’s what they had to say about finding wallpaper that is considered green.  Apparently, there are a number of companies that now offer wallpaper choices that are made from recycled paper and natural type fibers and materials (such as cotton).  Even the dyes that are used in the dying process are all-natural and are not harmful to the environment or your home (or you!).  In fact, even the pastes and adhesives are made with ingredients that are environmentally responsible!  These wallpaper options, while more expensive than other more traditional choices, have been coming down in price as more and more companies offer the greener alternatives, so as supply increases, the prices have been decreasing, make it easier to choose as a viable wall covering option.  There are also many more wall treatment options available that do not include toxic or harmful agents used in their manufacturing or installation.

I thought this was such a cool idea and much prefer this option to low or no voc paints.  So, I’m heading online to see if I can find some green wallpaper to cover my living room walls with.  Wish me luck!

Naturally cheap framed wall art is also available at larger retailers like Kmart. I recommend waiting until the semiannual clearance sales that the stores have to hold in order to clear old inventory. If you’re patient and arrive early you can find incredible deals on high-quality reproductions of classic works of art. Pick what speaks to you, as they say, and remember that there’s no need to stick to only one historical period.

If you’re feeling just a little bit adventurous, cheap metal wall art is another interesting kind of wall decoration that one can find at a garage sale or estate sales. These pieces can completely set a tone for a room so be careful in choosing them, especially if they are larger. It might be hard to really consider them cheap wall art, but very often these decorations made of metal are inspired pieces of sculpture that can easily become conversation pieces in your home.

Above all, make it fun. Your bedroom decor should be an extension of your own personality and preferences, and that of your family. It shouldn’t be too hard to find works appropriate for you and your family.

This article is about how to finish your walls to give you a very unique and pleasing look.  You can certainly achieve some interesting looks with just the various paint colors and application techniques.  There was a time when these wall treatments were all the rage in interior home design.  You probably heard terms like ‘rag it on’ and ‘sponge it off’ and other applications like these.  There were even home designer gurus on TV giving advice on how to use stamping techniques and using other elements to create more texture on your walls.

Well, this texture trend is still hot and is actually making even more of a comeback.  You can get wallpapers that have texture and create a very nice look, but as you know, once it is up, you are sort of stuck with it unless you want to go through the work of tearing it all down.  This is why painting is usually the safer way to go.  Unless you absolutely know what paper you are in love with, go with paint first and see how you like it.  You can always go back and add the wallpaper later.  There is one problem, though, with many of the paints.  That is, these paints often contain volatile organic compounds or VOCs that have been implicated in various health scares.  Because of this and other environmental concerns, low VOC paints have made a bigger impact in this area.  These ‘safe paints’ are just as easy to apply and don’t leave that harsh paint smell that we have all smelled at one time or another.

Now, over the past decade or so, there was another type of wall treatment that began getting very popular.  This technique involved wall plaster and requires a bit more skill and mastery. It is called Venetian plaster and it is a very time-intensive project.  In short, this plaster technique utilizes age old ways of applying a material containing tiny amounts of trace minerals and such to create a gorgeous finished wall.  It is applied using a trowel, this is what makes it a bit trickier to learn and apply.  In addition to this, it requires a bit of muscle to really get the nice smooth finish that it is known and prized for.

There is a similar technique used to apply another great wall treatment and that is clay.  This clay is also applied using a trowel and is dyed prior to applying it to the walls.  In this way, there need not be any harsh chemicals or agents used to aid in a drying process.  The clay itself is an all natural product as well, lending itself to being a very green product.  It is a bit more work than painting, but once it is done, you get the benefit of the clay’s inherent properties of creating a sound-deadening environment as well as the natural coloring.  So, if you get a little ding here or chip there, it doesn’t show through on the wall like darker paint does on a typical drywall wall.  So, if you are up for some experimentation with this great new addition to the wall plaster world, go for clay over paint and reap the rewards.

However, this article is not addressing lead in paint, but rather the level of other toxic agents that are used in most paints sold for home and commercial use.  The term is volatile organic compounds or VOC for short.  This term describes what it is in the paints that causes them to be not only noxious but potentially harmful as well.  There is debate as to whether the low volatile organic compound paint is actually safer or healthier for you.  This is not too surprising.  Any time that there are health claims for or against any commonly used product or service, there are sure to be spokespeople that come forward to defend the company.  This is common practice.

Do VOC containing Paints Pose Health Problems or Is This About Common Sense?

What we are discussing here is not whether they are open to liability claims or anything for health problems, but just whether or not low VOC paints are a better idea in general.  If you subscribe to the notion that these chemical agents can likely cause more harm to the planet or the inhabitants of a home than not, then why have them in it, then we are in agreement.  Eco-friendly products don’t need to be harder or uglier than their toxic counterparts.  The way we see it, with the strides made in the manufacturing of these low or no VOC paints, you can get them in any color and sheen that you would the more standard paints.  You may pay slightly more, but this is only a matter of time as well.  Soon, all paints will likely be no or low VOC.  Stores like Home Depot and Lowes already carry these paints available to the homeowner.

You’ll find that these paints are less toxic to work with and cause you less of a problem with the noxious fumes.  Some people are extremely sensitive to chemicals and actually have problems health-wise because of such issues.  While this may not apply to you, there are likely more benefits of a ‘cleaner’ and ‘safer’ paint than there are by using one with the organic compounds in it.  Especially if you are going to be using them in the bedroom, non-toxic is best.  Imagine all those fumes you are breathing in with this one bedroom decorating project.  This is not the half of it.  Your bedroom furniture was likely made with a lot of these toxic agents as well.  Your mattress too, you bet.  Once you combine all these compounds together, you can get an idea how committing to using low VOC paints can contribute much to the health of you and your home.

An often neglected area of home decor is the walls.  Even the most elegantly furnished room can look bare if the walls need help.  Wall decor can be the “x factor” that really brings a room to life.  There are so many options available, that your imagination can really run wild if you choose to let it.

Now, when I say ‘decorative’, it doesn’t exactly have to be something with intricate detailing done in one-pixel-wide lines. If you fancy that look, have at it, and good luck. But in this case, ‘decorative’ applies to anything that is in the image besides the initial photo and the physical external frame. There are quite a few ways to make digital frames, but for the sake of keeping your attention for the rest of the article, I’ll describe the easy ways to do this. Heck, if you really try, you could probably create some graphic design jobs for yourself by making some trouble-free tailored image borders.

First, you’ll need to take your photo or artwork into Photoshop…this is a very highly recommended way to embark on this kind of editing. Make a New Layer and then choose the Rectangular Marquee tool; proceed to draw in a rectangle that is smaller than the picture itself. Then go to Select>Inverse to invert the selected area. From there, fill the selected area in with whatever color or pattern you want (using the Paint Bucket, Pattern Stamp tool, or Gradient tool). If you so wish, you can download some neat brushes and patterns legally and for free online that would make some attractive accompaniments. Play around with the filters too, as they tend to result in some cool effects. That’s it for this one type of framework.

The other sort of frame actually involves putting white and black frames around the image. To start, once again, get that picture to work from, and from there, go to Image>Canvas Size. Check the “Relative” box and adjust the size by however many pixels you choose. And make sure your background color is white for the sake of this tutorial. After that, make your background color black and go back to the Canvas Size window. Increase the size by a couple of pixels (like 2 or 3), and you’ll have a black line around the image. Change the background tint back to white and, once more, adjust the Canvas Size again, maybe to about half of what the original increase was. And that’s it. Feel free to experiment with shades and patterns with this too…if your walls are beige, why not go with a nice burgundy inner frame as a compliment to your wall color? Or, if you’ve got a rustic theme going on, choose some earthy colors to match nicely with your country decor.

Either way, the end result will be something stylish and will add a little finesse to an otherwise typical image in a typical frame.
