Home entertainment centers are the showpiece of most homes. Flat panel TVs, DVD/DVR players, and stereos fill a large part of our lives. Since they are so important to us, the equipment needs to be properly displayed, safely and securely.
Good DVD stands are made so other equipment can be displayed and used also. A whole home theater system can be showcased on just one stand; the flat panel TV on top with all the other pieces on shelves beneath or to the side. Before purchasing a stand though, make sure the weight limits and dimensions are sturdy enough for what you want, you may be able to get by with an audio tower instead.

DVDs can be stacked on top of other electronics equipment or they can stand alone. Make sure to only stack 2 items on top of each other though. A lot of heat is generated when the electronics are used and this can lead to a short life for your equipment. If a big enough stand is purchased your DVD collection can also be stored along with the player.
A good DVD stand comes in every style, color and model you can think of. You can go from very simplistic black and white on chrome, to expensive cherry wood. The only things crimping your own interior decorating style is the space where you are going to put the stand, and the amount of money you have to spend. These and the audio towers, mentioned, give you the ability to use the modern flat screen TV wall mounts and still have a place for your AV equipment and movies to go.
All major furniture stores carry them. You can also find them at discount and electronics stores. If buying at a discount store you can get the item much cheaper, just be sure to check the weight limits. If purchasing a large stand they can be very heavy. Most stores have free delivery. To save money, if you don’t mind a few dings or dents look in the damaged sections for marked down items.
