Laminate flooring is durable and will provide you with years of service. You need to insure you care for your new floor properly in order to keep it looking good for a long time. You need to mop, vacuum and sweep the floor on a regular basis to keep it looking great. Take care in cleaning products you use on your floor. Typically, manufacturers recommend a liquid spray on type, which is available at grocery and hardware stores. Never use any abrasive cleaner on your laminate. Before you purchase a generic brand of cleaner check the warranty to ensure it will not be void if you utilize the generic brand.

Laminate does have a protective coating; however, no coating can keep it scratch free. It doesn’t matter if you get the more expensive or the cheap laminate flooring, it happens to it all in this respect.  To keep your floor as scratch free as possible use small area rugs in front of entrance doors. Dirt tracked in on visitor’s shoes tends to leave marks and scratches on laminate floors. Some people enforce a “no shoes” rule upon entering their home or office, but most people prefer to strategically place rugs in front of doors.

It is a good idea to use furniture pads or coasters under legs of desks, tables, or large pieces of furniture. Never drag furniture across your laminate floor. That tends to leave permanent marks and scratches on the floor.

Be sure to wipe up spills immediately. Any liquid left on laminate planks tend to seep into the flooring and may require replacement. If you do need to have pieces replaced it is wise to seek a professional installer.

Just using common sense when caring for your floor will ensure it looks good for years to come.

1. The Wrong Type of Flooring

The floor in a bedroom should be about comfort. If you lay the cheapest vinyl floor tiles, you will regret it when you step on them in bare feet on a cold morning. If you have chosen hard tile flooring in error then add to the comfort of the flooring with a bedside rug. More appropriate flooring for a bedroom would be carpet or even hardwood flooring or laminate which tends to be warmer than cold tiles. (A floor rug would still be a welcome addition however).

2. The Wrong Color of Flooring

Flooring which fades into the background is generally best for most bedrooms which take their colors mainly from walls, bedding and curtains. Medium oak laminate flooring or beige carpet will work in many rooms as a neutral color. If you choose a bright shade the room will not be so relaxing and you will tire of it quickly. Not only that, the color of the flooring will overpower everything else and make the room seem out of balance.

3. The Wrong Quality of Flooring

Even though bedrooms don’t get as much wear as other rooms in your home, don’t skimp on quality. The bedroom is a room to call your own, a peaceful haven from the outside world and not one where you want to be continually irritated by the scratchy surface of an old carpet or the sight of cheap laminate flooring which greets you every time you enter the room. You don’t have to buy the very best for your bedroom but it is worth spending a little more money to get something you are happy to live with for many years to come.
