1. High End Department Stores

If you have a good department store with a lighting department, they will probably stock a few beaded shades and you should be able to find something suitable. Although there will not be a huge selection you should see the standard colors of cream, dark red and gold, at least, and perhaps one or two black lamp shades if the department store if known for its contemporary furniture.

2. Specialist Lighting Stores

If you have a store dedicated to lighting in your locality then you should find a choice of beaded lamp shades of all types there. If they do not have exactly what you want on display, they may be able to order them in for you. These stores are great for getting advice about what might work with a particular lamp base so take your base along, if you can, to get help with finding something suitable.

3. Interior Design Stores

These stores seem to specialize in finding those little accessories which lift your room decoration and as beaded lamp shades fit into that category, you are likely to find one or two examples to choose from here. The only problem might be that the items in these stores generally come with a high price tag.

4. On the Web

Whatever you need you can generally buy it on the web and beaded lamp shades are no exception. A quick search with your browser will uncover many examples of all colors although you may have to do a little detective work to uncover exactly what you need.

Looking at the material leather, you can conclude that it is a strong hardy material. Leather has long been used by man as clothing, accessories and in the case of the leather armchair, as household items. Leather is great for any type of upholstery which means that it is not only great for an armchair but also suitable for ottomans, sofas and footstools.

In a very formal bedroom with a tailored bed cover and piped cushions, you could use a very formal valance too – one which is is either geometric in shape or which has neatly arranged swags and crisply folded tails. This works well if it is custom made to suit the window using the same fabric as the curtains but with a contrast for the trim or lining of the tails parts of which you can see when the valance is hung.

In a bedroom with a softer modern style or in a romantic bedroom, a scarf type window valance is ideal. This uses fabric that has good draping qualities rather than one which can be made into crisp folds. A scarf valance is simply a long piece of fabric which is arranged over a drapery rod in soft folds, leaving a tail hanging at one or both sides of the window. The drapery rod must stand slightly away from the curtain rod so that the window valance does not get in the way of opening and closing the curtains.

If you are planning an ultra contemporary style bedroom, you may want to give valances a miss as they can be a decoration too many, however if you are thinking about hanging very plain blinds at your windows, a simple valance is quite useful for softening hard edges and accentuating the colors you have chosen in the blinds or in the remainder of the room. A simple valance gathered in softly at each corner works very well in this case.

1. Walls

Prepare the walls so that they are in good condition and if necessary line them with plain lining paper before painting with an ivory or cream wall paint with a chalky finish. If you prefer to use wallpaper, choose one with a subtle self-colored pattern in cream.

2. Floor

Install a wall to wall honey beige carpet with a velvety soft texture to give a soft neutral base for your room. If you prefer wooden flooring then a medium oak will give a similar color but you will need a cream rug at each side of the bed for comfort.

3. Furniture

Choose cherry wood furniture with some detail in it to add texture and interest to the room. This could be new furniture but it should have the look of history about it. A wooden sleigh bed would fit the bill, so would any furniture with carved detail.

4. Bedding

Choose a cream bedding ensemble with rich embroidered detail for texture and interest. Top the bedding with ornamental cushions which use both the cream colors from the bedding ensemble and the honey colors from the carpet. If suitable, make up a cushion or two in the curtain fabric.

5. Curtains

Use cream full length curtains incorporating a pattern in the exact same shade as the carpet. Trim a matching valance with chocolate brown beaded fringing.

6. Accessories

Add two bedside tables covered in cream tablecloths and use tall candle style lamps with honey colored silk shades. Trim these with the same beaded trimming as the valance.

1. The Wrong Type of Flooring

The floor in a bedroom should be about comfort. If you lay the cheapest vinyl floor tiles, you will regret it when you step on them in bare feet on a cold morning. If you have chosen hard tile flooring in error then add to the comfort of the flooring with a bedside rug. More appropriate flooring for a bedroom would be carpet or even hardwood flooring or laminate which tends to be warmer than cold tiles. (A floor rug would still be a welcome addition however).

2. The Wrong Color of Flooring

Flooring which fades into the background is generally best for most bedrooms which take their colors mainly from walls, bedding and curtains. Medium oak laminate flooring or beige carpet will work in many rooms as a neutral color. If you choose a bright shade the room will not be so relaxing and you will tire of it quickly. Not only that, the color of the flooring will overpower everything else and make the room seem out of balance.

3. The Wrong Quality of Flooring

Even though bedrooms don’t get as much wear as other rooms in your home, don’t skimp on quality. The bedroom is a room to call your own, a peaceful haven from the outside world and not one where you want to be continually irritated by the scratchy surface of an old carpet or the sight of cheap laminate flooring which greets you every time you enter the room. You don’t have to buy the very best for your bedroom but it is worth spending a little more money to get something you are happy to live with for many years to come.
